With 2014 coming to an end, we look forward to the latest custom home trends for 2015. With an emphasis on individualized style and functionality, the rapid growth of technology, and more green sustainability practices, 2015 is the year of the custom home.
Smaller, Functional Rooms
We’re seeing more homes incorporating clever layouts with versatile spaces that can be used for a number of different things. These rooms have great storage and functionality that grow with the family. The concept of universal design is taking off – having the design of the home shift and evolve as the family grows and changes.
Technology & Green Living
Green features are everywhere, but 2015 should expect to see more energy-efficient windows, LED lighting, and water-efficient plumbing and appliances to save on energy. Technology is now playing a larger role in home design, as well. These “smart homes” can now adjust the thermostat, turn on lights, or record television shows directly from a smartphone. You can also expect to see more voice integration – meaning you can talk directly through your phone to your house to do things like preheat the oven or start the dryer!
Outdoor Living Areas
Seamless transitions from the inside living and kitchen areas to the outside area is becoming increasingly popular. Patios and porches are now finished with an outdoor kitchen area or fireplace, essentially bring indoor living outside. There is also an increase of three- and four-season porches, extending this idea of outdoor living throughout the changing temperatures.
Larger Closets
Homeowners are now downsizing space in the bedroom for larger, customized, walk-in closets. There’s also a great shift towards larger mudrooms and laundry rooms. Function rules in the 2015 custom home trends, and we’re seeing that the most here.
Homeowners want their homes to offer personalized functionality, storage, and outdoor living that will continue to grow and change as their family does. Custom home trends continue to evolve each year, and 2015 is no different. David C. Bos Homes is experienced with custom home design and trends.
