Are you licensed to do work in the stat of Michigan?
One of the most important things to find out about your contractor is if they are properly licensed and insured to work in the state of Michigan. Do not hesitate to ask to see an actual copy of their state license to ensure it is real. If a company were to hesitate in showing you this information for any reason, it maybe time to consider finding a different contractor.Look up David C Bos Construction Company in Spring Lake at https://www2.dleg.state.mi.us/colaLicVerify/ to see our current licencing in the state of Michigan.

What does our schedule look like?
Before construction of your project begins you should ask your contractor for a detailed schedule of home things are planning to go. Along with a basic start and end date, you should have an outline of tasks that are going to be completed and a timeline of when these tasks are going to be completed. This will give you an overall picture to the order of the project and also let you know when deadlines are for things like cabinets or flooring.A good schedule will let you know if things start to fall behind and also let you know what days and times people will be on your property working.

Do you have any examples of your previous work?
A company should be able to show you at least a few good examples of work if not a whole catalog of homes they have built or rooms they have renovated. This will also give you an idea of the kind of work you can expect from the company you are hiring. Before and after examples are something that should be provided, especially if you are remodeling a room like a kitchen or bathroom. For new home construction, you should be able to see what kinds of home styles the builder has built in the past and what you can expect with your finished product.Be sure you check our photo gallery for homes that we have built in Grand Haven and other areas around West Michigan.

When do I need to make my decisions by?
You should know ahead of time what kind of decisions you will need to make and when they will need to be made by. This could happen in many ways from a layed out calendar with decision dates on it, a spreadsheet, to an online form. Make sure you have a clear timeline of when you need decisions made for your contractor, this will help the project stay organized and stay on the set timeline. -
What will happen if there is a change order?
Change orders are not uncommon in the construction world and your contractor should easily be able to handle them. Typically there will be a written change order document that needs to be filled out and signed by both the client and contractor so that the contractors know what the new scope of work, prices, and new timeline. This could also be done in an online form now a days.
